In their own words
In Their Own Words
Rather than relying on a narrator, UNBROKEN: The Untold Story of Shen Yun lets the interviewees tell their own experiences — including the parts that are hard to put into words.
At the Toronto premiere, brothers Jesse and Lucas Browde spoke publicly about the death threats they have faced and the intimidation directed at theatre staff. That conversation later became part of the film's bonus content.
The perspectives of orchestra musicians, the emcee and a former company member add another layer: how a performing company holds itself together through years of touring.
Beyond the stage
The Family Perspective Beyond the Stage
UNBROKEN points out that mainstream media coverage of Shen Yun Performing Arts has almost never included the voices of dancers' parents and families, or of the doctors who treat dancers' injuries — injuries that are common in any elite performing arts company. UNBROKEN turns the camera toward these long-absent perspectives.
